Bosch, Commerce Ink Deal for SiC Production Site

Bosch has signed a direct funding agreement for up to $225 million with the U.S. Department of Commerce to develop its Roseville, California, facility for the production of silicon carbide semiconductors (Bosch.com).
What’s going on: Bosch will use the government funds to support its own $2 billion investment in overhauling the Roseville site. Commercial semiconductor production is expected to begin later this year.
Why it’s important: The state-of-the-art California facility will strengthen domestic manufacturing of components used in products from smartphones to medical equipment.
The NAM says: “When we build these capabilities in the United States, we’re not just making chips—we’re securing our economic strength and national security for decades to come,” NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons wrote in a social media post.
