NAM Legal Center

The NAM Legal Center is the leading voice of manufacturers in the courts, fighting to advance policy objectives and advocate for strategic manufacturing interests.

NAM Legal Center

The leading voice of manufacturers in the nation’s courts.

The NAM Legal Center works with some of the most effective legal experts in the country, who fight—and win—every day for NAM members and manufacturing priorities. The Legal Center reins in regulatory overreach, defends hard-fought legislative gains and ensures a level playing field for manufacturers—protecting manufacturers’ ability to grow, innovate and create jobs.

What we do

Leading the manufacturing sector’s work in the courts

The Legal Center engages in party litigation, provides amicus support in key cases and keeps members informed—from a members-only library of background memos to briefings, webinars and networking for in-house counsel. Our litigation spans the issues that matter most to manufacturers.

Environment & Energy

Challenging unlawful environmental mandates and defending energy manufacturers against litigation campaigns that try to set national policy through the courts.

Labor & Employment

Holding the NLRB, OSHA and the Department of Labor to the limits of their authority and defending workplace policies that work for manufacturers and their teams.

Product & Civil Liability

Pushing back on meritless mass torts, runaway punitive damages and novel liability theories that raise costs for manufacturers and consumers alike.

Corporate Governance

Defending the free enterprise system against activist pressure campaigns and securities-litigation abuse that targets public manufacturers.

Tax & Trade

Holding the IRS and other agencies to the intent of the law and supporting the open, rules-based trade manufacturers depend on to compete worldwide.

Immigration

Defending lawful, workable immigration programs that help manufacturers fill critical roles and keep America competitive.

In the courts

Recent wins for manufacturers

For decades, the NAM has successfully litigated on behalf of the 13 million people who make things in America. When manufacturers show up in court, they win.

FTC rule struck down
A federal court vacated a NAM-opposed 2024 FTC premerger rule that would have burdened manufacturers’ M&A, adopting the NAM’s reasoning.
Card check reversed
Courts struck down the Biden NLRB’s card-check standard, and the NLRB rescinded its 2023 joint-employer rule.
At the Supreme Court
The NAM filed amicus briefs in cases from climate-tort litigation (Suncor v. Boulder County) to 340B (AstraZeneca v. Mosaic Health).
“Frivolous and agenda-driven lawsuits do not improve public health or safety. Instead, they create confusion for consumers and undermine the regulatory certainty manufacturers need.” — Linda Kelly, NAM General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer
