DOE, EPA Announce 100 Energy, Environmental Wins
In its first 100 days, the second Trump administration delivered 100 energy-related and 100 environment-related victories for the U.S., the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency announced this week.
What’s going on: The administration marked 100 days in office on Tuesday, and the DOE and EPA each issued a list of 100 accomplishments achieved since Jan. 20 that have “restored American energy dominance” (Energy Department) and “deliver[ed] results to protect our environment” (EPA ). Actions include:
- Reversing the previous administration’s year-long moratorium on liquefied natural gas export permits;
- Approving nearly $57 million in loans to restart the Palisades Nuclear Plant;
- Completing 25 state implementation plans, “allowing environmental requirements to go into effect faster”;
- Establishing the National Energy Dominance Council;
- Cleaning up multiple brownfield sites and making them ready for use;
- Removing regulatory barriers to the use of LNG as a marine fuel;
- Extending a permit for the Golden Pass LNG project;
- Greenlighting an LNG export permit for the CP2 project in Louisiana;
- Completing health and safety reviews of dozens of chemicals and pesticides to ensure their safety for use by and around humans; and
- Announcing streamlined permitting reforms at the 17 National Labs.
The NAM’s role: The NAM has been instrumental in a number of these moves, particularly those involving LNG.
- In December, the NAM called on the president and his administration to end the LNG export permit ban. In April, it identified for federal agencies 44 regulations in need of revision or rescission.
Our view: “The administration truly has begun to deliver on its promise to ‘unleash American energy,’” said NAM Director of Energy and Resources Policy Michael Davin.
- “Manufacturers—the backbone of our economy—need reliable, affordable and plentiful energy to do their jobs, and we all deserve a clean, healthy environment. These wins are a huge step in the right direction.”
