10 Mining Projects to Be Fast-Tracked

The Trump administration has granted FAST-41 status to another 10 mining projects, ensuring that they will move swiftly through the permitting process (Reuters).

The background: The projects, which will produce copper, palladium and other minerals, are being fast-tracked under a federal initiative from 2015.

Who’s involved: Among the planned mines are a “proposed copper and nickel mine in Minnesota from a joint venture of Glencore and Teck Resources; a New Mexico uranium project from Energy Fuels; expansion of a Montana palladium project from Sibanye Stillwater; an Alaskan silver project from Hecla; and a Georgia titanium dioxide project from Chemours.”

  • “South32’s Hermosa zinc-manganese project in Arizona was fast-tracked by former President Joe Biden, the first mine to receive the FAST-41 treatment.”

The bigger picture: The administration also issued an executive order in March seeking to bolster U.S. production of critical minerals, including lithium and cobalt “as well as uranium, copper, potash, gold and any other element, compound or material as determined by the Chair of the National Energy Dominance Council,” according to the EO.
