Manufacturing Job Openings Rose in October


Job openings in the manufacturing industry rose in October to 410,000 from 385,000 in September (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

  • Job openings remained below their level one year ago, however, when the industry had 455,000 open positions.
  • Durable goods openings increased from 256,000 to 280,000, while nondurable goods openings inched up from 129,000 to 130,000.

Hires and separations: Hiring in manufacturing decreased from 320,000 in September to 306,000 in October.

  • Total separations remained almost flat, increasing from 327,000 to 329,000.

Overall economy: Job openings also remained flat in the overall economy, at 7.7 million in October. Over the course of the month, hires and total separations also remained at 5.1 million.
