EPA Delays Emissions Reporting Deadline Again

The Environmental Protection Agency has again extended the deadline for various industries to report their 2025 greenhouse gas emissions data (POLITICO Pro, subscription).
What’s going on: In a “move … intended to give EPA more time to review comments on its September 2025 proposal to terminate reporting for most major emitters,” the agency last week gave 8,200 facilities and suppliers until March 10, 2027, to submit their emissions information.
- It’s the second deadline extension that the agency has granted under the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program; last March, the EPA moved the deadline from March 31, 2026, to Oct. 30, 2026.
- “[B]y [that] time, it said, it would have finalized the proposal to end emissions reporting for 46 of 47 industry sectors.”
- The oil and gas industry is being handled separately, with the EPA working to pause the sector’s requirement until 2035.
What it means: The extension gives manufacturers more time to collect and verify emissions data.
- It also gives the administration the opportunity to review the more than 50,000 comments it received on its original reconsideration proposal (Federal Register).
