6. Foxconn to Add AI Infrastructure in Wisconsin

In a move that will create nearly 1,400 new jobs by 2030, Foxconn will expand its manufacturing footprint in Wisconsin to include artificial intelligence infrastructure (Foxconn.com).

What’s going on: The world’s largest electronics manufacturer and technology service provider announced recently that it will invest an additional $569 million to build out its Racine County, Wisconsin, operations.

  • The investment, which will create 1,374 jobs over the next four years, follows approval by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.
  • Under an amended agreement with WEDC, the agency will provide up to $16 million in additional performance-based tax incentives to Foxconn, from a first-stage investment that was revised in 2021.

The details: Foxconn is eligible to earn as much as $96 million in performance-based tax credits under Wisconsin’s Electronics, Information Technology and Manufacturing Zone program through 2029.

  • As of today, Foxconn in Wisconsin employs approximately 1,500 people who manufacture data servers and has spent over $2 billion on capex, payroll and taxes.

Why it’s important: “As the demand for more data infrastructure continues to rise, Foxconn will keep responding to our customers’ needs with flexibility and at scale in the United States,” Foxconn Chief Product Officer Jerry Hsiao said.

  • “Wisconsin accounts for close to a fourth of our workforce in America, and this second-stage project will double that presence in the state by the end of this decade.”

What else they’re scaling up: Foxconn also plans to expand its Texas facilities ( Manufacturing Dive).
