TOMORROW: Nation’s Largest Manufacturing Association Launches 2025 Competing to Win Tour to Spotlight What’s at Stake for American Workers and Manufacturing
Washington, D.C. – Just weeks before President Donald Trump delivers his first address to Congress in his second term, National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons will launch the 2025 Competing to Win Tour tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 18, starting in Ohio—where he will deliver the NAM State of Manufacturing Address in Hilliard before heading to Columbus for a major event on tax reform at the Ohio Statehouse.
From there, the NAM will take its message on the road, traveling to Freeport and Houston, Texas; Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama; and Miami, Florida, Feb. 19–21 to highlight how the right policies can help create more manufacturing jobs, grow paychecks and strengthen communities across the country.
Timmons will be joined by:
- NAM Executive Vice President Erin Streeter (Feb. 18);
- Manufacturing Institute President Carolyn Lee (Feb. 19 and 20); and
- Manufacturers; workers; students; federal, state and local officials; and business leaders from across the country.
“Manufacturing is the backbone of our economy, and when manufacturing wins, America wins,” said Timmons. “In recent weeks, House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the NAM to secure the 2017 Trump tax reforms and advance other urgent policy priorities that will help manufacturers create more jobs, raise wages and increase investment in the U.S. Now, we will build on this momentum, rally more support for our cause and show more of the nation the strength of our people, our industry and our movement.”
“For a decade, the NAM has taken this tour across the country—bringing the voices of manufacturers, workers, students and community leaders directly into the national conversation,” said Streeter. “Since 2015, we’ve been on the ground—not in Washington, but in plants, schools and communities—showcasing the impact of manufacturing and the policies that shape our industry’s future.”
What’s at Stake:
- Keeping pro-growth tax reforms: According to a recent EY and NAM tax study, failing to preserve pro-manufacturing tax policies from the 2017 tax reforms will cost the U.S. economy nearly 6 million jobs and more than $1 trillion of U.S. GDP.
- Restoring regulatory certainty: Manufacturers face $350 billion a year in regulatory costs, draining resources that could be spent on wages, hiring and expansion.
- Unleashing American energy: Delayed energy and infrastructure projects are driving up costs, risking America’s supply of abundant and affordable energy and making U.S. manufacturing less competitive.
- Expanding markets: To grow manufacturing and protect U.S. jobs, manufacturers need more to be done to expand exports, secure critical materials and level the playing field for American workers.
- Building the workforce of the future: With nearly 500,000 open manufacturing jobs, the U.S. must increase talent, expand training programs and bolster workforce pathways.
