On TV and on Capitol Hill: Timmons, Manufacturers Show How Tax Certainty Is Delivering

On Tax Day, manufacturers didn’t just celebrate a competitive tax code—they showed how it is delivering.

As manufacturing leaders gathered on Capitol Hill, NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons continued his Tax Day media swing with appearances on CNBC and NewsNation—highlighting how pro-growth tax policy is driving investment, hiring and optimism across the industry.

On TV: Appearing on NewsNation’s “Morning in America” and CNBC’s “Morning Call, ” Timmons made the case that H.R. 1 delivered tax certainty for manufacturers, while underscoring that sustaining that momentum requires continued regulatory modernization, permitting reform, trade certainty, energy abundance and upskilling and training the manufacturing workforce.

  • “What I hear from manufacturers all over the country is there is this incredible optimism about the future, and that is because of the certainty that was achieved last year during the tax reform debate. H.R. 1 was passed, and [it] strengthened and renewed the 2017 tax reforms,” he said on CNBC’s “Morning Call.”
  • Timmons continued, “Regulatory modernization is occurring right now as we speak, and of course, energy abundance is a big focus for this administration, and that is important to us.” He also noted headwinds, “which is rising input costs until we get some certainty on the trade front and the tariff front,” and pushed for “permitting reform so that we can continue that drive for energy abundance” and addressing the more than 400,000 open jobs in the sector.
  • On NewsNation, Timmons stated the job creation, investment and wage growth from the 2017 tax reforms would come to an end if they didn’t get renewed and strengthened through H.R. 1, saying, “When we did that, it gave manufacturers certainty. It gave them the ability to plan for the future in terms of investment and hiring as well as wage growth.”
  • Timmons then credited the administration’s work on “regulatory modernization and working on energy abundance” while saying “we need permitting reform to make that even better.” He added, “There is some uncertainty on the field as well, in terms of trade policy and trade agreements like USMCA and then the American workforce. We have 400,000 jobs open in manufacturing. We need more workers.”

On Capitol Hill: That message was backed up by manufacturers themselves. One year after advocating for permanent tax reform, Ketchie President and Owner and NAM Executive Committee member Courtney Silver and Pivot Manufacturing President and CEO Steve Macias returned to Capitol Hill—this time with proof.

  • First, the two leaders stood alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and others in House leadership, business leaders and families on the steps of the U.S. Capitol at a press conference Wednesday to celebrate the “transformational benefits” of the Working Families Tax Cuts.
  • Silver and Macias then joined the NAM for a Tax Day lunch hosted by House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), lawmakers and other industry leaders to highlight the impact of the WFTC for manufacturers.

What they said: Macias pointed to new equipment purchases and the ability to forecast—and expand—his workforce with confidence. Silver described how the reforms have allowed her company to invest in advanced machinery, strengthen competitiveness and create real opportunity for her employees, telling the story about one of her team members who was able to close on his first home with his father because of opportunities brought about from the tax law, calling it a “win–win.”

  • In addition, Ketchie told Fox News, who also cited the NAM’s landmark study, “[i]t gave me the certainty and the confidence to go out and make capital investments.” She noted that her company invested more than $1 million in equipment following the law’s passage, adding, “for everything we invested in, we need to create those new positions on our team.” Speaker Johnson later amplified her story, sharing her video on X.
  • NAM Managing Vice President of Government Relations Stef Webb thanked Majority Whip Emmer and congressional leaders for working hand in hand with manufacturers to get the legislation across the finish line—and for continuing to support policies that keep the industry growing.

The bottom line: From national TV to Capitol Hill, the story was the same—tax certainty is fueling investment, supporting manufacturers and strengthening manufacturing in America. And with the right policies in place, manufacturers are ready to do even more.
