ADM’s CCS Project Now Operational
Global food and nutrition processing company ADM is now operating a carbon capture project at its Columbus, Nebraska, corn processing complex (ADM).
What’s going on: ADM has said the plant, which began operation this week, is the world’s biggest bioethanol carbon capture facility.
- “The facility is connected to [energy infrastructure company] Tallgrass’s Trailblazer pipeline, which will transport the captured carbon dioxide from the ethanol plant to an Eastern Wyoming sequestration hub for permanent underground storage” (Gas World).
- The Trailblazer pipeline, a former natural gas transmission line that runs through Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, can transport more than 10 million tons of carbon dioxide a year.
Why it’s important: Carbon capture pipelines are key to removing emissions from the environment, and “ADM has been a pioneer in the [carbon capture and sequestration] industry for more than a decade,” said ADM North America President Chris Cuddy.
- “CCS is an important part of our strategy to decarbonize our operations and help meet global demand for low-carbon ingredients.”
