Energy Transfer Invests $1.6 Billion in South Mississippi Pipeline

Energy Transfer has announced a final investment decision to move forward with its $1.6 billion South Mississippi Pipeline Project (Yahoo Finance).

The details: The planned 215-mile, 36-inch pipeline will be able to transport up to 1.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day and is expected to begin operation in 2030.

  • It will draw natural gas from several basins in the Southeastern U.S.

Ownership: Energy Transfer will maintain a 51% ownership stake, while shippers will own the remaining interest.

Another project: Energy Transfer also plans to build Bear II, a cryogenic natural gas processing facility in the Delaware Basin, adjacent to its existing Bear plant.

The NAM says: “The buildout of pipelines will increase capacity to meet rising energy demand, an essential priority for manufacturers. The U.S. needs more of these projects, and comprehensive permitting reform will clear the way for many more to proceed in a timely manner,” said NAM Senior Director of Energy and Resources Policy Michael Davin.
