The NAM’s Regulatory Successes in Trump’s First Term
As it works to inform the new Trump administration’s regulatory agenda, the NAM is building off a successful partnership on regulatory reform during President Trump’s first term. Here is a quick recap of everything it achieved.
The request: In 2017, at the request of the White House, the NAM compiled a list of 158 regulations in need of modernization, simplification or removal—drawing on its member companies’ expertise to suggest the most important changes for manufacturers in the U.S.
The achievement: By the end of 2019, more than 90% of these reforms had been made or were close to being finalized—including many onerous energy, environment and labor regulations.
The NAM says: “The NAM has a track record of successfully working with President Trump to right-size the regulatory state,” said NAM Managing Vice President of Policy Chris Netram. “In light of the Supreme Court’s decision in Loper Bright, it is even more important that manufacturers play an active role in the rulemaking process.”
