Study: Diversity Is Crucial to Manufacturers’ Success

The majority of manufacturers are actively pursuing diversity and inclusion policies, which are helping them close the skills gap and improve their bottom lines, according to a newly released study from The Manufacturing Institute.

Study highlights: More than 90% of the manufacturing companies that participated in the analysis said pursuing D&I was important for their business.

  • Sixty-four percent agreed that D&I was a focus for their company.
  • More than 60% said they pursued D&I policies to become an employer of choice.
  • Nearly 60% of companies that want to increase the hiring of minority groups have programs to attract these candidates in particular.

The last word: “Manufacturing leaders are embracing diversity and inclusion in their workforces,” said MI Vice President of Strategic Program Engagement AJ Jorgenson. “We see in this research that manufacturers know it’s not only a societal trend but a business imperative. Inclusive workplaces are more productive, more efficient and have higher retention, and with nearly 900,000 open jobs in manufacturing today and millions more needed to fill in the next decade, attracting and retaining talent remains a top challenge for the sector.”
