Schneider Electric Drives AI Infrastructure Growth

Who’s behind the energy solutions driving significant data center innovation? Schneider Electric (CNBC).

What’s going on: Schneider, “the largest energy management provider for data centers … announced in June that it would collaborate with Nvidia to serve the growing demand for sustainable, AI-ready infrastructure. This was a research and development partnership for power, cooling, controlling and high-density rack systems to enable the next generation of AI factories across Europe and eventually beyond.”

  • Last month, it shared the news that it and Nvidia had developed blueprints to speed up AI-infrastructure construction.
  • Part one of the blueprints consists of “integrated power management and liquid cooling control systems.” Part two is “a framework” for new Nvidia chips.

Why it’s important: “Those chips, which are powering AI or enabling AI, are … consuming a lot of energy, and you need to cool them directly on the chip by bringing liquid directly on the chip,” Schneider Electric Chairman Jean-Pascal Tricoire said.

  • The continued growth in data centers presents a greater need to find more innovative energy management solutions.

A “positive feedback loop”: “AI is helping to increase energy efficiency, even as it sucks up more energy. … ‘To make it very simple, AI can help gain in efficiency four times more than it consumes, at least four to nine times more,’” Tricoire continued.
