Manufacturing Job Openings Decline
Manufacturing job openings declined in December, according to Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey numbers from the Department of Labor.
The numbers: Job openings in manufacturing declined to 764,000 in December from 803,000 in November.
- In the past 12 months, job openings in the industry have averaged slightly over 840,000, well above pre-pandemic levels.
Hiring and quits: Manufacturers hired 405,000 workers in both November and December. Quits were mostly unchanged from November.
- Overall, net hiring has averaged a solid 26,500 over the past 12 months.
- While the number of manufacturing quits has slowed since peaking in March 2022, there is still significant churn in the manufacturing labor market.
