Factory Orders Decrease
Factory orders declined more than expected in January, according to Forexlive.
What’s going on: “New orders for manufactured goods in January decreased by $21.5 billion or 3.6 percent to $569.7 billion. This decline in new orders follows a 0.3 percent decrease in December, marking a decrease in three of the last four months.”
- Economists had forecast a 2.9% drop for the month.
- However, factory orders excluding transportation decreased much less, by 0.8%.
The details: Shipments declined 1%, to $572.3 billion, continuing a downward trend seen in four of the past five readings.
- Unfilled orders rose 0.2% to $1,395.1 billion, the 13th monthly increase in the past 14 months.
- The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio inched up to 7.18 from 7.10 in December.
