Congress, White House Amplify NAM’s Advocacy on Tax
On Capitol Hill yesterday, as President Trump rallied support for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, small and medium-sized manufacturers also spoke out in favor of the bill’s pro-manufacturing tax policies—and their message is resonating with both Congress and the White House.
What they’re saying: Click Bond CEO and NAM Small and Medium Manufacturers Group Chair Karl Hutter, Husco President and CEO and NAM SMM Group Vice Chair Austin Ramirez, Ketchie President and Owner and NAM Executive Committee Member Courtney Silver and Winton Machine Company CEO and Co-Owner and NAM Board Member Lisa Winton released a statement underlining the importance of the House Ways and Means Committee bill, which would extend each of the pro-manufacturing tax policies the NAM has highlighted through our Manufacturing Wins tax campaign.
- “This bill is a crucial step toward restoring key pro-investment tax policies, and enacting new ones, that provide essential tools for manufacturers of all sizes—especially small and medium-sized enterprises—to innovate, create jobs and invest in their communities,” they said.
- “Increasing and making permanent the pass-through deduction will empower small and medium-sized manufacturers to create jobs in their communities. Enhancing the estate tax exemption will protect family-owned businesses from devastating tax increases when a loved one passes away. Reinstating incentives for R&D and capital investment will ensure SMMs have the capital they need to power the American economy. And preserving tax reform’s corporate and individual rates will support growth and innovation at growing companies across the country.”
- “We urge Congress to act swiftly to pass this legislation, support our sector’s continued growth and reaffirm America’s commitment to a strong manufacturing future,” they concluded.
NAM impact: The NAM’s advocacy on behalf of this bill—including the statement above—has been picked up by lawmakers and the White House.
- The White House’s rapid response account on X (formerly Twitter) twice promoted the SMM statement above and amplified NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons’ voice.
- At a House Republican Leadership press conference, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) highlighted the nearly 1,000 groups supporting the House reconciliation plan and singled out the NAM’s statement on the importance of passing the bill. The majority whip’s office published statements of support from Timmons and NAM Managing Vice President of Policy Charles Crain on the need to pass a reconciliation package with pro-manufacturing energy, environment, health, technology and tax policies.
Turning up the volume: The NAM today launched a new ad featuring small and medium-sized manufacturers from across the country, thanking House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) and the whole committee for championing the policies in the bill most critical to the manufacturing industry.
Next steps: The House is planning to approve the bill before Memorial Day. While continuing to push hard for House passage, the NAM is already working with the Senate on provisions that could further enhance the pro-growth potential of the package.
