Biden Admin Releases Plan to Speed Permitting

The Biden administration released a Permitting Action Plan designed to help promote crucial upgrades to America’s infrastructure.

What they’re saying: “The Action Plan is the latest example of the administration taking action to swiftly deliver the benefits of infrastructure investment to the American people through well-designed projects that support the president’s ambitious climate and clean energy goals,” the White House said in a fact sheet supporting the effort.

  • “Putting the Action Plan into place will result in better permitting outcomes, enhanced predictability for project sponsors and increased accountability across federal agencies to execute efficiently and effectively.”

What’s involved: The administration identified certain elements of its plan, including:

  • Early and effective coordination across federal agencies, which are critical to its efforts to move infrastructure projects forward efficiently;
  • Clear timelines and public tracking of information on projects to promote transparency and accountability;
  • “Early and meaningful outreach” between the federal government and states, tribal nations and territories; and
  • Better “responsiveness, technical assistance and support” to allow stakeholders to navigate the permitting process more easily.

NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons said, “Manufacturers welcome today’s announcement of a new Permitting Action Plan. This will help accelerate implementation of the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law as manufacturers work to build for the future.”
