What Manufacturers Want from the Next President
Manufacturers have a simple message for both presidential candidates: what manufacturers need most is sensible tax and regulatory policy.
What we’re saying: In an interview with Fox News Digital, NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons underscored the importance of keeping the 2017 tax reform’s provisions in place.
- “We had record investment, we had record job creation, and we had record wage growth for the three or four years [during Trump’s term],” thanks to the reform.
- “There is a lot of talk right now from both sides of the aisle, quite frankly, about the possibility of raising taxes on manufacturers, taxes on businesses. That’s not going to help us. That’s not going to help us grow. That’s not going to help our economy grow,” he continued.
Burdensome regulations: Timmons also discussed the pressing need for regulatory reform.
- “There’s been an onslaught of regulations that cost manufacturers about $350 billion every year in regulatory costs, and that harms our ability to really invest in new technologies, new plants, new equipment as well as job growth,” he said.
- “We want to see a kind of top-to-bottom review of all the regulations that have been imposed on manufacturers,” he added, noting the excessive burden these regulations place on small manufacturers.
What we’re doing: Timmons noted that the NAM will work with both parties’ candidates on these issues to ensure that manufacturers have the tax and regulatory environment that they need.
