Manufacturing Job Openings Decline
The number of manufacturing job openings in the U.S. decreased in June, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data out today. Vacancies in the larger economy also declined.
What’s going on: There were 486,000 seasonally adjusted job openings in the industry in June, compared to 586,000 in May. The overall economy had 8,184,000 job openings in June, down from 8,230,000 openings the month prior.
- Durable goods manufacturing had 323,000 openings in June, down from 411,000 in May.
- Nondurable goods manufacturing had 164,000 vacancies, down from 175,000 in the previous month.
- All openings were also down from June 2023 (durable goods down from 370,000, and nondurable goods down from 208,000).
Hires and separations: Manufacturing hires declined in June, too, to 345,000 from 354,000 in May.
- Separations in the industry, however, rose in June, to 358,000 from 352,000 in May.
